KENYA: #THROWBACKPLAYLIST Before Sauti Sol Was Even An Idea, We Had Sema
18 February 2016

Allow me to take you back. Back to a time when Sauti Sol was not even an idea yet, a time when the concept of bands was still a new thing.
At the time it took the intervention of a Fortune 500, in the form of Coca Cola to bring groups together in their Coca Cola Pop Stars competition.
A lot of great bands came out of the competition, the likes of Blu3 from Uganda, Wakilisha from Tanzania, and Sema from Kenya, and with them some amazing songs the likes of ‘Hitaji’, ‘Hoi’ and ‘Leta Wimbo’.
Unfortunately none of the groups remain together to this day, however few of the members took on solo careers. Going solo worked for some like Lilian Mbabazi (of Blu3) and Sanaipei Tande (of Sema).
But today being a Thursday and in the spirit of #TBT, allow me to take you to a trip down memory lane. Here is, ‘Hoi’ (Wakilisha), ‘Hitaji’ (Blu3) and ‘Leta Wimbo’ (Sema), enjoy!
