KENYA: A Teary Affair at Diamond's Concert in Kisumu As Police Throw Tear Gas Cannisters to Disperse Angry Crowd
15 February 2016

From Kisumu to Lodwar, Bongo superstar Diamond Platinumz was a busy bee when he jetted into the country for performances over the weekend.
And while his Lodwar concert was the definition of success, it was not all peachy for his Kisumu show where youth broke into a fight with police officers forcing the show to be delayed for over an hour.
Some of the fans that were locked out of the event because they couldn’t purchase tickets to the show, decided to spoil the show for the rest of the attendees fighting with the police charged with securing the venue, causing them to fire tear gas to disperse the rowdy crowd.
The violence was sparked when thugs began looting from some of the crowd that had been queuing to enter the venue.
One of the alleged thieves was then cornered by the angry crowd forcing police to get involved. However it got even uglier when one of the police officers was hit by a stray stone thrown from the crowd.
His fellow policemen then retaliated by tossing teargas canisters to disperse the crowd from the entrance of Simba Club.
All the while the show inside had been brought to a halt and Diamond taken backstage under heavy security.
But when he got back on stage, he brought the roof down with his electrifying performances.
“Nawapenda watu wa Kisumu kwa sababu hamubagui watu. Mnao upendo (I love Kisumu people because they do not discriminate. They love people),” the singer said during the show that lasted until the early morning hours.
Popular comedian and radio show host Jalang’o and DJ Pierra Makena were also featured in the show and were active in engaging police officers during the stand-off.
