KENYA: Kenyan Music App Tops Google Playstore Ranking Beating International Apps

Today Mdundo has reached a new high as the all new and improved Mdundo App is ranked the top Music and Audio application in the country surpassing even popular international applications in the same category like Shazam and Soundcloud.

Speaking about this new achievement, Mdundo Chief Executive Martin Neilsen expressed his pride saying, “We are proud to show that an African app can match the international standards. We are keen to show the same growth in Tanzania and Uganda.”

“It is our way of supporting our growing industries by bringing our users 100 percent African talent right on their phones,” said Mdundo’s Head of Marketing, Martha Huro.

Mdundo has gradually established itself throughout East Africa after its expansion into Tanzania and Uganda.

It currently holds the biggest catalogue of music in the region with over 45,000 songs from about 10,000 artists in the region.

Currently lead Product Manager, Kinajui Njoroge, is looking to translating the application to Swahili in order to reach a broader audience throughout the region (especially in Tanzania where majority are Swahili-speaking).

"We are delighted to see Africans both locally & in the diaspora are interested in listening to East African artists right on their phone. We are humbled that we can facilitate that. We however acknowledge that this is the start for we are looking to cater for every African who listens to Music. We are simply providing them with an African catalogue of Music right on their phone," he said.

Other projects aimed at improving the product include creating themed playlists to match the moods and emotions of the users. This they hope will improve user engagement with the application.

At this time the app has received a 4 star rating on Google’s Playstore from 400 reveiws;

“Great way of accessing African music great audio quality too. The update did the trick. Thank you” – Eric Kithinji

“The best music download app” – Ken Juma

“Loving the new look!” – Lizza Murungu

Mdundo promises bigger things to come over the next year and to all our users we say ‘thanks for making Mdundo number 1.’
