UGANDA: Mukono Rap Kings 'Clansmen' Release Second Single "Onjagazaki"

With doors wide open, the Ugandan music industry is slowly gaining popularity on the international scene and it’s no wonder several artistes have come out within this short time. The internet penetration within the country that has been rising every other day and it’s safe to say that musicians have a wider market on which they can push their music on. The digital age, which has been boosted by the massive penetration of platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube among others, an artiste’s music is just a few shares away before it goes viral.

Gone are the days when hip hop groups had to brand threatening names to make a breakthrough in the music industry. With the playing ground set, a young group of rappers from Mukono came up and decided to form a group which would help them compete on the international scene or tip the balance in their favor.

Clansmen which comprises of rappers like Jibo (Najib Kiggundu), Benezeri (Benezeri Chibita), KSL (Joel Kisalu) and Chief ( Dennis Kagyezi) have released their second song Onjagazakyi a week after releasing the controversial “Beat Murderer”. Ojagazakyi will be the second song the group release together this year. Ask me what it sounds like and I will say awesome!

You’re probably wondering “Beat Murderer”? What controversy? Here is the 411 Beat Murderer is a song that was first done by Shareef ft. Blessed Son in 2011.  So Clansmen decided to redo the song to pay tribute to Shareef and Blessed Son however troubles arose after it became clear to them that they did not have permission from the composer of the song to redo the song as they had earlier thought.

Negotiations are still ongoing between Shareef and the Clansmen to come to a settlement of some kind and forge away forward. ‘The original was produced by Muhweezi Shareef and recorded at the now Roota records. The Clansmen version was recorded at Urban Aksent.’
