Top 10 Remixes That Were Better Than the Original
3 February 2016

They say nothing beats the original and to some extent this is true, but occasionally with the right ingredients a remix can be more explosive than the original song.
Today we look at some of the biggest remixes in Africa. From Kenya, Nigeria to South Africa, we look at all Africa has to offer.These are the biggest remixes of Africa;
‘Number One’ Diamond Platnumz ft. Davido
The original was great, but once you have the one million dollar man on your track things are just bound to get better. Released two years ago now, ‘Number One’ is perhaps one of the biggest songs of Diamond’s career;
‘Na Gode’ Swahili Version by Yemi Alade
No doubt Yemi Alade had to work extra hard to learn and perfect a new language for this, but thanks to her immense talent her hard work did not go to naught.
‘Zigo’ AY ft. Diamond Platinumz
AY teamed up with Diamond Platinumz for the remix of ‘Zigo’ and who knew the Tanzanian duo could make such beautiful music together. And thanks to the amazing visuals (and no doubt the sexy ladies) the video has garnered over 1 million views in just two weeks. It is no doubt the hottest video out this year;
‘Ojuelegba’ Remix by Khaligraph Jones
The original song was done by Nigerian Wizkid and made waves all over the world. So much so that multiplatinum selling artist Drake had to get on it together with Skepta from the UK.
Ghanaian Sarkodie also had a refix of the same but some would argue that it was Kenya’s Khaligraph Jones who really did justice with his refix;
‘Chop My Money’ P Square ft. Akon & May D
Before the Wizkids and Davidos of today, P Square were the biggest export Africa had to offer. In fact they were so good that they got the attention of Akon who didn’t mind featuring on the remix of ‘Chop My Money’ along with May D;
‘Skelewu’ Davido ft. Major Lazer
‘Skelewu’ was one of the biggest Dance videos of 2013 making waves all over the world. And what would make a dance better than adding some house beats to it, and so top house DJ Major Lazer did exactly that;
‘Bum Bum’ Timaya ft. Sean Paul
What would make a better addition to the list than a song about booty. Well you can thank Timaya for that as well as the amazing music video they did with one of the biggest names in Dancehall music, Sean Paul;
‘Nwa Baby’ (Ashawo Remix) Flavour
‘Ashawo Ashawo, Awusha, Ashawo…’ it was on the lips of every mouth back in 2011 whether you knew what it meant or not. It was also what propelled Flavour’s name to super stardom;
'N-Word' Remix Ice Prince Featuring AKA
Nigeria's finest meets SA's best. What more can we say other than 'lethal combination';
‘Hello’ Swahili Cover by Dela
Well it’s debatable whether Dela did better with her ‘Hello’ cover than superstar Adele did with the original, but the fact that she got the world talking about the Swahili cover of ‘Hello’ that’s good enough for me;
