Sony Music Entertainment Pay $1 Million For Nigerian Davido's Signature

Nigerian David Adeleke stage name Davido has made history becoming the first African Artist to sign for music corporation Sony Music Entertainment.

The deal signed on January 21 at Sony’s New York, United States headquarters saw the ‘Aye’ hit maker receive $1 million for his signature.

Davido also stands to benefit further as the company will help him distribute and market his music at a global level. As for Sony Music Entertainment, this deal will play a huge role in penetrating the African market.

According to reports the deal was executed by Nigerian raised, American Music Executive, Efe Ogbeni (Grace, Red One) who is also partners with Nicki Minaj on Parker Ighile’s project, and was facilitated by Davido’s manager Kamal Ajiboye.

“To all those that doubted me! It’s a done deal! First African Artiste to sign a global record deal! My story is just starting!! My mother is smiling in Heaven right now,” said the 'Skelewu' hit maker.

It's always been my dream to take my music and culture to all corners of the world so I'm blessed to be partnering with Sony Music Entertainment on this next chapter. My number one aim is to make my fans and Africa proud," Davido added.

This now means Davido’s his highly anticipated sophomore album set to be released later this year will be the first released African album under Sony Music Entertainment.
