The Growing Numbers

In the three years that Mdundo has been in operation in the country, we’ve invested a total of Sh. 65 million, a number that continues to go up each year Mdundo is in operation.

A total of 15,000 artists from 36 different countries have joined the platform and are now uploading their music every day.

For each and every day of 2015 we had more than 50 new songs uploaded on our platform.

Our users were also not left behind. In 2015 the number of users rose to more than 2 million and this number continues to grow every day as we continue to improve user experience on our Mdundo App.

We had a total of 8 million downloads in 2015 and close to 9,000 artists who are signed with us gained royalties from those downloads.

How do Artists Make Money on Mdundo?

In a nutshell, the more downloads you get the more money you earn.

Mdundo generates most of its revenue from advertisements, and this money is then split 50/50 with our artists.

Generally it is a symbiotic relationship. If Mdundo generates more money from advertisements this year than we did last year, our artists stand to make more money than they did previously.

Mdundo works with our corporate clients to put advertisements on the website and in our artists’ music. Artists then make money when users download their music on the platform.

We also give our artists rewards according to the downloads they get. The awards are categorized as follows;

1. Mdundo Platinum – 1 million downloads
2. Mdundo Gold – 500,000 downloads
3. Mdundo Silver – 100,000 downloads
4. Mdundo Bronze – 50,000 downloads

So far no artists have attained Mdundo Platinum and Gold, however artists who have attained Mdundo silver include artists like Avril, Bahati, Willy Paul, H_Art the Band, Sauti Sol, Rhymaholic MVI just to mention a few.
