KENYA: How Rufftone Plans to Bring Messi and Ronaldo to Kenya

One thing Kenyans love more than music and partying, is sports. And one sport especially comes to mind and that is football.

Right now in the world of football, you are either Team Messi or Team Ronaldo. The two players are some of the most decorated footballers in history with more than 10 FIFA Ballon d'Or awards between them.

There’s no doubt any football lover would relish the chance to meet any of them. And one man is out to make this dream come true to Kenyan football fans.

As the newly appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the Republic of Korea, there’s no denying Gospel singer Rufftone wields immeasurable powers (or so we think), but to be able to bring the two mega stars to the country would be other worldly.

Why is he planning this? Speaking to Citizen Digital, the ‘Mwikulu’ hit maker rvealed his disappointment in the situation of football in the country.

“I am deeply saddened by the situation of Kenyan football. There is a lot of talent in the country as there is dire football mismanagement in the country,” he said in the interview.

“For example, Kenya has churned top footballers like former Harambee Stars midfielder Mike Okoth; the father of Divock Origi – who plays for Belgium. Mr Okoth in the 90’s relocated to Belgium to play professional football; and was impressed by Belgium’s football management,” he added.

“Then emerged Musa Otieno who also sought greener pastures in South Africa; then followed Allan Wanga, Dennis Oliech, McDonald Mariga and Victor Mugubi Wanyama. They are all talented; so it will be wrong to say Kenya does not have gifted footballers.”

However Rufftone’s plan to invite the two stars hinges completely on Kenyans joining in with him.

He plans to mobilize Kenyans to take to social media and invite the Barcelona forward Messi and the Real Madrid record breaker Cristiano Ronaldo to encourage youth who have lost hope in pursuing football careers in the country.

“I will mobilize Kenyans to invite Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to come and encourage young Kenyans that football pays; and that it is a career like any other – by doing so, Kenya’s football management will see the need to take the youths’ talent seriously,” said Rufftone, adding: “We cannot always live by the phrase ‘football does not pay’.”

“I’d love to see them (Messi and Ronaldo) instill confidence in our young footballers; ask them to dream that they (Kenyan footballers) can achieve greatness – as vast as theirs. I wish to invite them to Nyayo National Stadium where they will talk for one hour.”

“If we can front this initiative by mobilizing for their Kenyan visit through their social media handles, I believe that will come to pass. I solely rely on the unity of Kenyans and the favour of God to make this possible,” he concluded.

Now all that remains is to see whether the dream will come true or whether Rufftone is being too hopeful. We wish him all the best, we would all line up to see Messi and Ronaldo for sure.
