KENYA: This is Why Kenyans on Twitter are All Excited About the Launch of Netflix in Kenya

Now let’s step away from music and into movies and series one of Kenya’s favorite pass times.

Kenyans, we love our movies and series but the sources through which we can access these are limited. And so we turn to piracy through our local movie guys who only charge Sh. 50 per DVD and this was the best deal you could ask for, until now.

Netflix movies and series streaming service is now the world largest and most popular service of its kind after its recent launch in 130 countries (including Kenya). This now means you can now access Netflix from anywhere in the world (except China) making it a Global service.

Why is this a big deal? Well this no means you no longer have to part with Sh. 50 daily to pay your local pirate movie store for low quality movies, all you need is part with $8.99 (that’s less than Sh.1000, which is less than you would spend on your local in a month) monthly to access the full Netflix archive of movies and series.

This launch has stirred up quite the excitement on Twitter with many excited to try out the service for the first time…

However it’s not all Kenyans on Twitter that are getting carried away by the emotions. Others have raised moral questions, if you can pay $8.99 for Netflix why not pay for local services like Buni TV which have been around for quite some time but are yet to be popularized.

Does this now mean that Kenyans will switch from pirating international content to pirating local content only thanks to Netflix? Then perhaps Netflix need to introduce local content to completely curb this menace.

All in all this service is for sure a solution to one of the largest problems facing the entertainment industry worldwide.
