NEW MUSIC (NIGERIA): Great Music Video, Terrible Song! Fans express their Disappointment in Tiwa Savage's New Song 'African Waist'

Well I have to give it to the Nigerian fans, they don’t hide it when they don’t like your music, no matter how big of a superstar you are (here in Kenya though, it’s a whole different story…).

Last week Tiwa Savage released her new jam ‘African Waist’, which no doubt some of you have already heard.

By the title itself, you already have the feeling it’s a song with immense potential of capturing the eyes and ears of the world. But while the video managed to capture many eyes (with already over 300k views on YouTube), many die hard Tiwa Savage fans agreed, that the song doesn’t sound like her.

But before boiling down to that, let’s dissect the video a little. It is indeed a stunning video, well-choreographed and with a creativity that few can match, though I did notice a few borrowed elements.

In the video you notice Tiwa sporting that endless Janelle Monoe ‘Mono-braid’ that stole the show this year during the Met Galla and in her video ‘Yoga’. But I think we can all agree that the braid originated from Africa (just like twerking, sorry Miley), so big-up Tiwa for bringing it back.

And can someone give Don Jazzy a refrshing glass of water...

However as most fans tend to agree, there's not appearance of the real African Waist in the video. Just goes to show, Africa is also adopting to the skinny trend of the West.

On to the audio, most fans complained that the sound is not original Tiwa Savage and on that they were right. The song has that Nigerian Afro-pop sound that we’ve all come to love and expect but the producer fuses it with a little trap music.

The result, well you can read them for yourself;

On my part I tend to agree, while it may be different I think the sound grows on you once you listen to it a couple of times.

But let me not play judge and jury, give it a listen and share your views.
