NEWS (KENYA): Why Kenya Might Lose Her First NFL Player, Dan Adongo
24 December 2015

When Kenyan-born Daniel Adongo was scouted and recruited by one of the biggest American Football franchises while playing for Kenya’s U-18 and U-19 national Rugby teams, Kenya was proud that finally one of their own would finally be representing them in this great sport.
However now it seems that dream may now hang in the balance after the player has been put under investigation by both the Colts franchise and American Police over accusations of domestic violence.
The former Kenya Harlequins junior team player has been accused of beating up a woman believed to be her girlfriend (whose identity has remained unknown for her safety).
According to the Indy Star, police were called twice to Adongo’s home in the past three months to investigate potential domestic violence.
The first case was on October 24 when Adongo’s alleged girlfriend went to the police claiming she was afraid of him and didn’t want him near her. However she refused to give reasons for her claims but police noticed she had visible injuries on her body; a black eye, cut lip and bruised wrists.
After that Adongo told police that he would not return home that evening and would end the relationship.

A police report indicated that Adongo had an “open case” with the NFL therefore he could not say much in regards to the allegations. But also according to the report the information of gender violence provided by the woman was inaccurate and that the NFL Investigators have all the information to prove that.
However after the second incident on December 10, the Indianapolis Colts waived the linebacker last Thursday.
Now the future of the linebacker lies in the balance and some have said that his time at the NFL might just be it for his career. But that would be an unfair verdict considering the violent history many players in the sport have.
