NEWS (KENYA): 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Makes it to Kenya Before Hollywood itself

‘The Force Awoke last night’, if you are a Star Wars fan (or fanatic, what’s the difference really?) you probably know what I’m talking about.

Yes, the new Star Wars movie ‘The Force Awakens’ made its Kenyan debut last night. Mind you this was the first time it was being seen in Africa and anywhere else in the world for that matter, well except in Europe.

That means the film made it to ‘Riverwood’ before it even made it to the multi-billion dollar home of film ‘Hollywood’. Perhaps a little unfair for some of the 600 million fans of Star Wars worldwide, who have yet to see it, but we’re not complaining are we?

All this made possible by the popular American Sandwich maker brand, Subway, who by the way had been teasing their customers with a new Star Wars branded drink which they said would make you feel your inner Jedi, oh yes, the Force is strong with this one.

The film which stars one of Kenya’s biggest exports, Lupita Nyong’o (and another Kenyan who voices some of the characters, I forget his name), is predicted to be one of the largest grossing movies of all time even surpassing ‘Avatar’ and ‘Titanic’ which both made well over 2 billion dollars over the years.

Well if that doesn’t build up your anticipation, I don’t know what will. Perhaps the fact that one Lando Calrissian, a character in the movie speaks fluent Kikuyu.
