Beyonce’s game plan: a surprise album plus 17 videos!!

Beyonce has just pulled off what might be the greatest stunt in the history of music marketing.

She knows her way around a holiday surprise and the singer end-capped 2013 with an ‘exclusive visual album’ that she announced on Facebook over the weekend.

Her fifth LP is entitled "Beyoncé" and features tracks with Jay Z, Drake, Frank Ocean and the singer's daughter, Blue Ivy.

Without a single, a video or even so much as a hint from her label to stores or press, one of the biggest stars of all time has released an entire new album.

In a world where everyone has a camera phone and one person's tweet can go global in a matter of minutes, the fact that she and her team were able to pull this off is unbelievable. And yet, it's Beyonce -- would we really expect anything less?

“I didn’t want to release my music the way I’ve done it,” she said. “I am bored with that. I feel like I am able to speak directly to my fans. There’s so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans. I felt like I didn’t want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out. I just want this to come out when it’s ready and from me to my fans.”

According to the press release, recording took place over a year and a half but began at a Hamptons retreat in the summer of 2012. The visual album has 14 songs and 17 videos.
