In a continuous move towards empowering African musicians and promoting fair compensation in the music industry, Mdundo.com a leading digital music distribution platform has announced a remarkable projection of a substantial payout totalling between $1.2 to $1.5 million for the 2023/2024 period. 

Mdundo.com is proud to boast of a diverse and extensive roster of over 172,000 content providers, reaffirming its status as the premier platform for music discovery throughout the African continent. Collaborating with esteemed labels across Africa, Mdundo guarantees its 30.8 million monthly active users as of December 2023 access to a wide array of music spanning different genres, styles, and regions.

The innovative payment system implemented by Mdundo has benefitted approximately 156,000 artists in the 2023/2024 period, with a detailed breakdown revealing the distribution across various African countries.

The total amount payable to the content providers  in this period on Mdundo is broken down as follows:

Kenya: 44% for  56,000 active artists 

Tanzania: 19% for 15,200 active artists 

Nigeria: 17% for 25,000 active artists

South Africa: 7% for 7,500 active artists

Uganda: 6% for 19,800 active artists

Ghana: 6% for 6,900 active artists

In addition, we have also seen a growth in payment for some major artists in East Africa including Kenya’s Vijana Barubaru at 68%, Tanzania’s Bonny Mwaitege at 64%, and Uganda’s Levixone at 70%.

Another highlight is our collaboration with Kenya's major telecommunications company, Safaricom, introduced in December 2023. This partnership introduced a subscription service exclusive to Safaricom customers, offering DJ Mixes at Ksh5 per day. The collaborations aim to boost the monetization of music for artists, providing a consistent income stream, and supporting sustainable music careers.
