In an unexpected turn of events, the legendary Congolese musician Koffi Olomide finds himself entangled in a legal dispute as a demand letter surfaced, calling for the immediate repayment of unpaid dues from his ill-fated visit to Kenya in 2016.

This demand, issued by Githumbi Gachaga et Achoki Advocates on behalf of Nsana Productions, sheds light on a turbulent chapter in Olomide's career that led to his deportation and left a trail of financial losses for the Kenyan promoters.

Olomide is slated to make a comeback to the Kenyan stage on Saturday, December 9, at the Dome ASK Showground, thanks to a Radio Africa peace concert. However, the looming controversy surrounding his past visit threatens to cast a shadow over the highly anticipated performance.

The demand letter, dated December 7, 2023, outlines a series of financial transactions and obligations undertaken by Nsana Productions, the Kenyan promoters who had organized a show featuring Olomide in March 2016. The letter claims that an agreement had been reached, and terms were agreed upon for Olomide and his band to grace the event.

Among the payments made by Nsana Productions were a $20,000 deposit for Olomide's performance fees, $1,000 sent to Koffi Olomide Aliane as per the artist's instructions, and various other expenses, including airfare, accommodation, transport charges, and venue fees. In total, the demand letter specifies an outstanding amount of $50,032 and Kshs. 1,410,000 owed to Jules Nsana and Noah Auma Mug'a of Nsana Productions.

The letter underscores the significant financial investments made by the Kenyan promoters to ensure the success of the event, including payments to Kenya Airways, Villa Rosa Kempinski, Citizen TV for advertisements, Bomas of Kenya for venue fees, and equipment charges. These expenditures, totaling millions of shillings, were aimed at creating a memorable musical experience for Olomide's fans in Kenya.

However, the dark cloud of controversy descended upon the event as Olomide's visit took a violent turn. The letter refers to the infamous incident in July 2016 when the musician was deported from Kenya after allegedly assaulting one of his dancers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The fallout from this incident resulted in Olomide's failure to perform as expected, causing substantial financial losses for Nsana Productions.

The legal representatives of Nsana Productions assert that Olomide's deportation was a consequence of his actions and, therefore, the financial liability lies squarely on his shoulders. The demand letter calls for the immediate repayment of the outstanding amount to mitigate the losses suffered by the Kenyan promoters.

As the Kenyan audience eagerly awaits Koffi Olomide's return to the stage, the demand letter adds an unexpected twist to the narrative.
