EXCLUSIVE (TANZANIA): Is Ali Kiba Bigger Than Diamond? The KTM Awards Spell Doom For Diamond's Career!

Is Ali Kiba bigger than Diamond Platnumz? A question many would find quite the pickle to answer but the recently held Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards seemed to lay the answer in the open and in CAPSLOCK!

The 2015 Kilimanjaro Tanzania Music Awards (KTMA) went down this past Saturday, June 13, at Milimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam where singer Ali Kiba beat Diamond by what seemed to be an unending landslide going home as most decorated artiste of the ceremony!

Best Entertainer of the Year, Best Song of the Year (Mwana), Best Bongo Fleva Song Composer (Mwana), Artiste of the Year and Male artiste of the Year, 2015, the ‘Mwana’ hit-maker made it look like he had the cheats to this ceremony; taking candy from a baby is actually harder compared to what Ali Kiba did.

And like any good sportsman he took it to social media to thank his fans “Nawashukuru media zote na wote, kwa kweli pongezi nyingi zinaenda kwa my strongest #Teamkiba you are the best #Kingkiba_for_life.”

Despite having the lead for nominations(ten nominations), Diamond Platnumz walked home with only one award, in Best Collaboration of the Year category for the song ‘Kipi Sijaskia’, featuring Professor Jay.

Closer to home, the ‘boys with voice’, top boy band, Sauti Sol, bagged the highly coveted award for ‘Best East African Song Of The Year’, with their modern day national anthem, ‘Sura Yako’.

So back to my question: Is Ali Kiba a more exceptional artist than Diamond? Or is it that his many trips overseas render him a memory?

Because come on, let’s be honest, with his almost infinite Naija collaborations, you’d almost think he’d become a legend back home. But these awards speak a totally different gospel!
