At 45, the maestro of humor has announced a groundbreaking five-year plan that will see him bid farewell to the comedy stage, redirecting his talents toward the realms of music and filmmaking.

Basketmouth's decision to transition is no surprise to those familiar with his diverse artistic journey. Having abandoned a budding music career for the comedic stage in the 1990s, the iconic comedian expressed a deep-rooted conviction that his return to music and venture into filmmaking was inevitable. The success of "My Flatmates," a sitcom he not only produces but stars in, has only reinforced his belief in the expansive possibilities of the entertainment industry.

"I'll be 50 in five years," Basketmouth shared during the interview, "I'd have moved on to something else that'd be taking a lot of my time, and I don't want to cheat comedy. I want to give it 100%." The maestro envisions an all-encompassing involvement in the entertainment industry, crafting his empire that spans movies, TV, and music concerts.

Expressing his concerns about the current state of the comedy industry in Nigeria, Basketmouth lamented the lack of structure, asserting that comedians face unique challenges that hinder their success. In contrast to the global exposure that music and films receive through streaming platforms, comedy struggles to find a similar platform, leading to a decline in the culture of standup comedy.

"The system is not built to support comedy," Basketmouth asserted. He pinpointed the absence of platforms for new comedians to refine their craft, highlighting the misconception caused by the rise of social media, where skit makers are often confused with standup comedians.

To address this issue before his exit, Basketmouth unveiled his plan to create a platform for emerging comedians. Working closely with "one or two streaming platforms," he aims to launch a show named "One Night Stand," providing exposure and a global audience for aspiring comedic talents.

Despite his impending departure from the comedy scene, he hinted at the possibility of a return in the future. "As a comedian, you can't stop writing materials," he explained. "I'll keep writing, and maybe I might come back in another 10 or 15 years after now. We have a 15-year plan."

His impact on the entertainment industry extends beyond the realm of comedy. As the creative force behind "My Flatmates" and "Papa Benji," a web series, and the producer of three critically acclaimed music albums, including "Yabasi," "Horoscopes," and "Uburu," his legacy is woven into the fabric of Nigerian entertainment.

As this comedy maestro prepares to step into uncharted territory, the world watches with bated breath, eager to witness the metamorphosis of Basketmouth from the king of comedy to a multifaceted entertainment mogul. The next five years promise to be a rollercoaster of laughter, music, and cinematic brilliance as he leaves an indelible mark on the ever-evolving canvas of African entertainment.
