In the world of music, success often comes after years of hard work, determination, and a bit of serendipity. For Ugandan singer Martha Mukisa, her journey to stardom began with her 2018 single 'Ssebo,' a song that opened doors but also brought its share of challenges. From performing at major events to signing with Black Magic Entertainment, Martha's story is a testament to resilience and the ability to thrive even amidst adversity, including the unexpected blessing in disguise that was the COVID-19 pandemic.

Martha recalls in an interview with Sqoop that "In 2018, I recorded 'Ssebo,' and it was a game-changer." The song provided her with a breakthrough opportunity to perform at the renowned Blankets and Wine event. It was an exhilarating experience that allowed her to step onto a bigger stage, filled with dreams of a bright future in the music industry.

However, as the saying goes, "Not all that glitters is gold." While her initial success was promising, Martha faced unexpected challenges that necessitated a strategic reset. "Things did not work out the way I assumed they would, and I was back hustling soon," she admits.

The music industry is notorious for its unpredictability, and Martha's story underscores the importance of resilience. Rather than succumbing to setbacks, she embarked on a journey of introspection and reinvention.

"I had to restrategize," she explains. Her determination to overcome obstacles would eventually lead her to a pivotal moment in her career.

Two years later, in a fortuitous turn of events, she found herself signing with Black Magic Entertainment, a management company that would prove to be instrumental in her ascent to stardom. This partnership came just two months before the world was thrust into the COVID-19 lockdown, a period that would test the mettle of artists around the globe.

She acknowledges that, for many in the music industry, the pandemic was a time of uncertainty and financial strain. "At first, I thought the label was going to drop me because of the disruptions," she reveals. The sudden inability to gather and perform live concerts posed significant challenges for the industry. Yet, Martha's experience with Black Magic Entertainment proved to be a turning point.

Rather than abandoning her during these trying times, her management provided unwavering support and guidance. "My label simply told me to work on new projects," the ‘Sango’ singer says with gratitude.

The pandemic inadvertently created a conducive environment for her to focus on her craft without external pressures. During the lockdown, she found her creative spark. She penned and recorded a slew of remarkable songs, including 'Kicomando remix, 'International and Local,' 'Come to Mummy,' 'Ex Wo,' 'Tebatukyawa,' and the standout hit 'Sango.' These songs not only showcased her talent but also solidified her place in the Ugandan music scene.

While other artists faced struggles during the pandemic, Martha was thriving. Her management ensured her financial stability and allowed her to focus on her artistry. "Most of my bills were always paid," she affirms, highlighting the crucial role that a supportive management team can play in an artist's journey.

Her story is one of tenacity, resilience, and the power of unwavering support. Her journey from the challenges of her early career to the unexpected blessings of the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates that with the right mindset and a strong team by one's side, adversity can be transformed into opportunity.
