On October 9, 2023, the music world received a gift from the heart of Uganda in the form of Azawi's second album, 'Sankofa.' This release comes two years after her debut album, 'African Music,' and the anticipation surrounding 'Sankofa' has been nothing short of electric.

The album, titled after the Akan word 'Sankofa,' which symbolizes the act of looking back at the past to shape the future, is a 17-track masterpiece that showcases Azawi's musical evolution and her ever-growing influence on the African music scene.

'Sankofa' is more than just an album; it's a musical journey through time and emotion. Produced predominantly by the talented Bangar Boi, a Swangz Academy alumnus, the album is a testament to Azawi's maturation as an artist. Working alongside gifted producers such as Artin Pro, Groovy World, and Steve Keys, Azawi brings a fresh sound that seamlessly blends traditional and contemporary influences.

One of the standout tracks on her sophomore album is the collaboration with Jamaican Dancehall star Konshens, titled 'Summer Bae.' The song is a harmonious fusion of Afrobeats and Dancehall, and it's already catching the attention of Azawi's fans. Another remarkable collaboration features the renowned Kenyan group Sauti Sol, joining Azawi on the track 'Njagala Vibe,' which is a testament to the artist's cross-border appeal and her ability to connect with musicians from diverse backgrounds.

In this album, she collaborates with six male artists, including Konshens, Sauti Sol, Bensol, Elijah Kitaka, and Mike Kayihura. Notably, she didn't collaborate with any female artists for this project. She explained her preference, stating that working with male artists is often easier as they can write their music and are typically more confident and open to new ideas. This perspective reflects the complexities of the music industry, where gender dynamics still play a significant role.

'Omwenge' is the first music video released from the album. Directed by Marvin Musoke, this visually captivating piece delves into the atmosphere of local hangouts while staying true to the song's core message. The video sets the stage for the 'Sankofa' album and captures the essence of her artistic vision. It's a testament to her commitment to delivering high-quality content to her audience.
