EXCLUSIVE: Group Surprises Mdundo With Mind Blowing Version of 'Pole Musa'!

There really isn’t anybody in East Africa who doesn’t know how to sing Pole Musa or or hum its chorus.

Originally composed by Daudi Kabaka, it’s one of the oldest classics in the region, where there’s barely a soul that hasn’t been touched by it.

Over the next few weeks Z-Projekt will set out the best versions of most-covered East African classics, and especially Kenyan, spearheaded by Danish producer Seest Claus.

The collaborative enterprise has already recorded and album; a successful mix of local voices backed by Seest’s retro vocals and production skills, that seem to be working surprisingly well.

The first song off the project is Pole Musa  redone by Seest and two Kenyan artists VQEE & Kibby, available on Mdundo.com for free download from today Monday 4 May.

“The kenyan classics have so much power within them. We are just taking a few to revive back to society, as we project all the wonderful music qualities of the country”, Seest, the blue eyed soul singer, speaking to Mdundo.com

Z-Projekt is best described as a move to celebrate Kenyan musicians who kept the nation twisting and turning during the period just before independence, and after and it looks to reconnect the musical expression and history.

I have had the song, and from a cast of singers and performers who have renditioned Pole Musa, this is the best version I’ve come across.

But hey, I don’t want my comment box filled with “Go take a class to learn how to judge a voice or performance”, so here’s a link http://mdundo.com/a/9590 ......listen and be the judge.

“The next song out should be Malaika”, says Abby, a celebrated Kenyan singer who is also part of the project.
