Kenyan music lovers have been treated to one-of-a-kind entertainment with artists starting the year with top-ranking songs. Being the first month of the year, the majority of established artists invested in releasing high-quality music. A good number of the musicians expressed diversity and extreme creativity in the new releases given the stiff competition in the industry.

Shortly after announcing that 2023 would be the best year in his music career, Bahati surprised his fans with a vernacular love song dubbed 'Nowe Sweety' featuring celebrated Kikuyu songster Joyce Wa Mamaa. What made the song outstanding was Bahati's fluency in the Kikuyu language. The song's versatility in the production from the beats to the lyrics made it unique. Music producer Teddy B modernized the Mugithi genre by infusing new generation beats into the song. The track surpassed the half-a-million views mark within 48 hours of its release on YouTube.
