Vic West's viral 'Kuna Kuna' hit song has been recorded as the first Kenyan song to achieve over 10 million views within three months of its premiere on YouTube. The club banger which features A-list artists including Brandy Maina, Fathermoh, Savara, and Thee Exit band was released on October 10, 2022.
The song attracted the attention of the whole country when it went viral on TikTok. Almost every top content creator on the app jumped on the song's dance challenge. Its virality and influence among music lovers intensified with each passing day. Three months later and the 'Kuna Kuna' effect is as new as it was at the time of its release.
For the past few days, an Assistant Chief in Kisumu County has been the subject of discussion on the internet after a video showing him dancing to 'Kuna Kuna' went viral. Mr. John Ogilo Migun became a sensation for his mastery of the song's dance challenge which exceeded the expectation of many.
The success of 'Kuna Kuna' was, however, not by luck. A lot of investment was put into its production. The audio of the song introduced a new music style that had not been witnessed in the Kenyan music scene. It presented a unique and creative flavour that won over almost everyone regardless of age or musical preference. The simplicity of the music video blended with the creative dance choreography further made the whole song irresistibly good.
