Every year brings a new flavour to the music scene and 2022 hasn’t been different as far as new music albums are concerned. 

It has been a great year seeing new artists soar so high while others keep their mark of fame intact with new albums to add to their already sizeable discography. What’s different about 2022 is that there were a few debut albums that came out and they were extremely great. Let’s look at the top 10 albums of 2022.

  • Rave and Roses by Rema

The Afrorave singer treated his fans to his first album this year with major hit songs such as ‘Calm Down’.  He featured the likes of Chris Brown, 6lack, Yseult and AJ Tracey. 

He recorded the 16-track album in Benin City and released it through his label Mavin Records/Jonzing World. 

  • The Brother’s Keeper by Chike

This 16-track body of work is Chike’s second studio album. He has guest appearances from Flavour, Ycee, and Azana. It continues the success of his debut album ‘Boo of the Booless’ which he released in 2020. It also solidifies his ascent to the top echelons of the current Nigerian music scene.   • Love Damini by Burna Boy

Burna Boy gave it all for his sixth studio album ‘Love Damini’ with 19 songs. The heartfelt and sincere nature of the album whips up emotions in a big way. One of the most famous tracks off the album is ‘Last Last’ which is a big tune in the US music charts as it is in Africa. It samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 release, ‘He Wasn’t Man Enough’.

  • More Love Less Ego by Wizkid

The soulful and outstanding delivery of Wizkid, together with his vocals, are the foundation of his fifth studio album ‘More Love Less Ego’. The 13 tracks in it are purely musical.

Some of the featured artists include Skepta, Ayra Starr, and Don Toliver. ‘Money and Love’ and ‘Bad to Me’ off the album peaked so high after its release. 

  • “Boy Alone” Omah Lay

Omah Lay released a masterpiece in the 14 tracks of his debut album ‘Boy Alone’. Listening to ‘Understand’ off the album tells you that Omah is a glorious artist out to conquer the world. For a debut, this is a classic and well put together album. 

  • 19 & Dangerous” Deluxe by Ayra Starr

Ayra Starr informed her followers that she had discovered her sound in her budding music career with ‘19 and Dangerous Deluxe'. The music diva is rapidly cementing her status as Nigeria's Queen of Music with songs like "Rush" and "Bridgertn."

  • Mr Money with The Vibe by Asake.

Asake's rise has accelerated due to the necessity to provide people with an understanding of his music, which he immaculately achieved thanks to his 14-track debut album ‘Mr. Money and The Vibe’.

He incorporated Afro-classical and Fuji elements into the album which carries wit with it some dancehall and Amapiano backing to a large extent. One of the fan favorite songs off the project is ‘Peace Be Unto You’. 

  • V by Asa

Asa admits that love has imperfections but doesn't make it any less attractive in "V," an emotionally uplifting album in which she also expresses a wide range of feelings.

The album yielded a few top hits, including "Show me off," "IDG ft. Wizkid," and "Mayana."

  • Catch me If You Can by Adekunle Gold

One of the top Nigerian albums of 2022 is "Catch me if you can" since it reflects Adekunle's development and growth as a musician. The 16-track album redefines who he is musically and his craft as he enters a new music era.

  • Playboy by Fireboy DML

‘Playboy’ album tells Fireboy’s presence with his people by his side through an Afro Highlife theme. The album contains no skips and only hits. Take ‘Peru’ for example; it’s a massive hit to date.
