The year 2022 was decorated by some of the best music albums to have ever been released on the Kenyan music scene. Artists made heavy investments in the production of their albums from the quality of the audio, music video, and even collaborations with foreign musicians. As the year rolls to an end, we review top music albums that stood out and dominated music charts.

Invisible Currency

BET Awards nominee Khaligraph Jones made a breakthrough in the global market thanks to his 16-track album dubbed 'Invisible currency'. The album was strategically tailored to amass both domestic and international success. It featured popular local artists such as Prince Indah, Mejja, and Scar Mkadinali among others. It was also graced by international artists like Canadian rapper Dax. Among the top hit songs from the album that went viral and dominated music charts for months were 'Hiroshima' featuring Dax, 'Kamnyweso' featuring Mejja, 'Rada Safi', 'Maombi Ya Mama' and 'Ikechukwu'.

Savage Level - Savara Mudigi

Sauti Sol's star musician Savara Mugidi gave his fans a taste of different sounds and genres in the 'Savage Level' album. The 14-track project represented different sounds from across Africa. There was a touch of Afrobeat, Reggae, Lingala, Gengetone, and many other popular sounds. The singer invested quality time and creativity in the styles of the songs and the delivery. Some of the tracks that stood out in the album were 'Balance' and 'Killem Everyday'.

Three Wise Goats – Mbuzi Gang

Mbuzi Gang cemented its rise to stardom courtesy of the 'Three Wise Goats' album.   The three-man band which is popular for their Gengetone hit songs delivered diverse music while maintaining their signature in the Gengetone genre. Not only did the album feature the bigwigs on the music scene, but also fresh youngsters who are on the verge of their breakthrough. Some of the artists that took part in the production of the album include; Exray, Ethic, Silverstone Barz, Wyre, Jose Chameleone, Naiboi, and Kristoff.

Ceduction - Cedo X Various Artistes

Music producer Cedo brought together established and upcoming music stars to produce a 15-track masterpiece titled 'Ceduction'. The album featured other top music producers who delivered varied flavors of sounds and genres. From Gengetone to Bongo and Afrobeats, the album catered to all the musical needs of the fans. Some of the artists who graced the album were Nyashinski, Naiboi, H-Art The Band among many others.

Super Morio by Matata

Sensational Kenyan boy band Matata finished the year on a high note with their debut album 'Super Morio'. Initially known as just a Gengetone band, Matata proved otherwise as they showcased their prowess in other genres of music. The band delivered entertainment holistically in the album, from the cinematic music video that was highlighted by creative transitions, to the well-choreographed dance moves and poetic lyricism. With the positive reception of the album alongside other hit songs released this year, it is safe to say that Matata has earned its rightfully deserves spot at the high table of the Kenyan music industry.
