Talented Afrobeats artist and music producer Phillip Kayode Moses aka Pheelz has discussed how his religious upbringing impacted his decision to pursue music.

Pheelz realized his deep passion for music when he was five years. The church became his building point then and for many years after that. It’s the first place he interacted with instruments and music sank deep in him.

“I have always seen myself on stage, that’s the one thing I was sure about from 5. Because I got my first introduction into music when I was five and that was my first encounter in church,” he told BBC Focus on Africa.

The ‘Electricity’ singer says that the emotional resonance in songs initially piqued his interest and made him realize that music is what he wanted to pursue as a career.

“I just walked into the adult church and saw the choir singing and the way it had impact on people’s emotions. How some people would cry, some people would roll on the floor. It was a crazy scene to see for a five-year-old. From there I was like I wanna do this, this is what I wanna do.”

Today, he is a decorated Afrobeats producer turned singer. "Hear Me Out", his debut EP carries the famous hit ‘Finesse’ which he did with BNXN. It also earned him a recording deal with Warner Records.
