Ghanaian hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone has set the record straight on claims that he introduced the rap genre in the 90s.

The celebrated artist says that rap music was there even before he came to the music scene. However, he introduced a different style and carved a different musical path that many remember him for.

He told TV XYZ that he wanted to do something different from what rap artists of the time were doing. That’s how he ended up doing rap in a different form and used Ghanaian Twi to sound unique.

He spent his childhood and teenage years in London so he felt the rap in the UK and the one back home was all the same. That’s when he saw a gap and he returned home.

“It was when I came to Ghana then I realized the young boys here were doing exactly what we were doing back in London. The only difference was the language. They were using the English language to rap. So my idea was to change from English to the Twi language. So there came Twi rap,” he said. Plan Ben, Sweetie Sweetie, Ya Bounce Wo Visa are among his famous releases of all time. He is also a mentor for many people.
