"Akothee The Lioness" Album Review

Celebrated Kenyan musician Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, released her first album dubbed 'Akothee The Lioness' in June 2022. The award-winning artist who has been in the music industry for close to a decade now marked the important occasion with the launch of her first book titled 'Akothee Quotes'.

In a statement that she published on her social media pages, Akothee described the 8-track album as being a mixture of inspiration and fun. The title and the cover art of the album describe Akothee's journey in music and her resilience to overcome the challenges she encountered. The cover art has half of Akothee's face completed with that of a lioness.

The album addresses various themes including; love, religion, culture, and trends among others. The lyrics of the songs in the album have been tailored with a simplicity that makes them easily understandable and relatable.

Akothee introduces the album on a religious note with a gospel song titled 'Nisimamie'. In this piece, Akothee prays for God to guide and protect her. The sincerity in the lyrics of the song is so deep that it makes one get absorbed in it.

The second song on the album is titled 'Mpenzi'. In this song, Akothee displays versatility by singing in a sweet RnB melody. The singer is popularly known for singing in the Swahili and Luo languages, in this song, however, the majority of the verses are in English with punctuation of Swahili words.

Akothee then follows up the songs with other hits including; 'Mapenzi Chonyi', 'Expensive Baby', 'Siponsa' featuring legendary vernacular musician Tony Nyadundo, 'Nkoro nditu' featuring Kamanu, 'Dende Yom', and 'Abebo'.

The album was produced by renowned music producer Saint P. Akothee appreciated the producer via a special message that she shared on Instagram. She noted that his contribution to the success of the album was immense and immeasurable.

Akothee's album had been received warmly among the fans on the internet. Although the songs are in audio formats, they have received thousands of views and streams across various music streaming platforms.
