When FC Twente host relegation-threatened Sparta Rotterdam at De Grolsch Veste on Friday, they will be seeking to improve their chances of qualifying for Europe.

Ricky van Wolfswinkel scored from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute to give the Tukkers a 1-0 victory when both sides met in November.

With five Eredivisie games remaining, FC Twente is still in contention for European qualification, since they are only three points behind Feyenoord in third place.

Ron Jans' side has gone unbeaten in each of their past nine league games at De Grolsch Veste, but they will be cautious of the threat Sparta Rotterdam could provide after losing 2-0 to them in their last home match in December 2020.

Sparta will be full of confidence after a 1-0 away victory over Vitesse on Tuesday, which ended a four-game losing streak.

Despite only having 28 per cent possession, Henk Fraser's team came away with all three points as Adrian Dalmau scored the game's only goal in the fifth minute, his second goal in 19 league games this season.

Sparta's chances of survival have improved as they have risen from the bottom of the standings to 16th place — the relegation playoff slot – just one point behind safety.

Sparta has enjoyed recent success against FC Twente, winning seven points from their past five league matches against them, and another three points on Friday would give them back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Both teams will enter Friday's game on a high after triumphs last time out, but Twente will be considered favourites due to their top-of-the-table position.

While Sparta will be motivated by the possibility to climb out of the bottom three with maximum points, FC Twente may just have enough firepower to secure a slim victory on home soil and increase their hopes of finishing in the top three.

Betting on FC Twente to win comes in at 1.62, while under 3.5 goals comes in at a modest 1.33. If you plan on combining both, that would be 2.20.
