Onitsha-born Nigerian Afro-RnB and Highlife singer Chike has a long history with his love for creative spaces.

His getting into music was not an accident. Chike may have taken up Computer Engineering but deep down, he always wanted to pursue music.

The 29-year-old started laying his foundation in the entertainment industry by participating in Project Fame West Africa in 2015. It is a music reality show airing in Nigeria, and other West African countries.

He only made it to the top 10 and was disqualified. But his burning desire to fulfil a life’s dream saw him join another singing competition, The Voice Nigeria in 2016.

This was his springboard to the real world of music. Chike performed a cover of James Arthur's "Roses" at his blind audition for the show, only to end up fascinating all the four judges at the audition.

He was lucky enough to win judges’ and public favour throughout the competition where he finished second. All in all, this was a big feat for the Nigerian crooner.

Chike’s runner up position was a statement that he put in the work to actualize his dream to entertain the world with music. The Universal Republic signed him not long after completion of the Voice Nigeria.

Life hasn’t been the same since then. And here are his top 5 songs.

Beautiful People

‘Beautiful People’ by Chike is a perfect example of a musical masterpiece. It is the first track off his 2020 album "Boo of the Booless".

Chike celebrates beautiful hearts that come into people’s lives and take away the pain. He serenades a special woman who wipes away his pain, and despair in life and replaces them with happiness and love.

As for the sound, it is unique with a saxophone and guitar strumming giving the mid-tempo beat flavour.

Roju

Chike has a way of telling love stories. It just doesn’t stop with ‘Beautiful People’; he also does it with ‘Roju’, a classic Igbo love tune.

This smashing hit is from his ‘Boo of the Booless’ album which is a dedication of love.

It's a change of pace for Roju, who had previously been a fan of literary tragedy. From his home in Igboland, Chike depicts a variety of Nigerian weddings, starting with his own.

A typical Igbo wedding's idiosyncrasies are seen in the song's lyrics, which are sung in Igbo. The song’s visuals are equally appetizing.

Nwoke Oma

"Nwoke Oma," loosely translates to "a good man.” It from Chike’s second album ‘The Brother’ Keeper’.

While ‘Nwoke Oma’ has a merry vibe like "Beautiful People," the song's melody is quite different.

"Nwoke Oma's" distinctive lyrics contribute greatly to the song's overall beauty. And the content is highly relatable. He talks of the charisma people with money have that they are always followed around.

But his packaging of the message is unique and flavourful.

Running (To You) ft Simi

There are few songs by Chike that can compare to "Running To You," which he wrote. As always, Nigerian Silky Voice female musician Simi provides a sweet and pleasant vocal performance for this duet that you will want to add to your playlist.

This song doesn’t lose its flavour even for a day. When Chike sings with backing vocals by Simi, you can feel the charm. It is nostalgic to say the least.

Amen

"Amen" is a heartfelt love song that promises to never stop loving and living together. For weddings and anniversaries of love, the song is perfect especially with its insatiable mid-tempo groove.

The production deepens Nigeria’s fairy tale about love, and romance whilst thanking God for an answered prayer.
