Leeds United return to Premier League action after the international break with a match against Southampton at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, looking to extend their climb out of the relegation zone.

Last time out, the Whites came from behind to overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2, while Ralph Hasenhuttl's side lost 2-1 to Watford.

Leeds holds a seven-point lead over Watford in the 18th after back-to-back wins over Norwich City and Wolves, although the 16th-placed Whites have played three more games than Everton, who are wedged between the two and four points behind Jesse Marsch's side.

Leeds' top-flight fate isn't entirely in their hands at this moment, thanks to Burnley's games in hand, but if they can recreate the energy and drive they showed against all odds at Molineux, a 2022-23 season in the top tier should be theirs.

However, with 67 goals conceded, they are far and by the weakest team in the division, and they haven't kept a league clean sheet at Elland Road since November, so they couldn't have selected a better moment to face a Southampton side whose fortunes have taken a turn for the worse.

Southampton's excellent start to the new year has come to an end, with the club finishing March with no Premier League points and a humiliating FA Cup exit.

Southampton was beaten 4-1 by Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals, despite having a glimmer of hope thanks to an own goal by Aymeric Laporte.

While the majority of Southampton's losses in March occurred in front of their own fans, the Saints have struggled to keep the back door shut away from home, with Hasenhuttl's side conceding at a rate of more than two goals per game on the road since November.

Leeds may have won 5-0 on aggregate against Southampton last season, but the Saints won 1-0 at St Mary's earlier this season thanks to an Armando Broja winner.

Southampton may have needed a two-week break from Premier League action to recuperate from their dreadful run, but Leeds has yet to discover the right defensive formula under Marsch.

Following the five-goal thriller at Molineux, Leeds' confidence will be sky-high, but a rejuvenated Southampton side can take advantage of the hosts' continued fitness problems to steal a draw from an intriguing match.

A draw for this game has an odd of 3.77, while the more certain over 2.5 goals outcome is tipped at 1.62.
