The first Premier League match after the international break is crucial for both teams, with Liverpool knowing that a win would put them temporarily top of the league – something almost unthinkable a few months ago given their 14-point deficit to Manchester City – and Watford knowing that three points would see them leapfrog Everton and climb out of the relegation zone.

One of those possibilities is significantly more likely than the other, with the home side having a 92 percent probability of winning, according to the bookies, and given the Reds' form leading up to the international break, it's difficult to disagree.

With 16 places and 47 points separating them in the Premier League table, the second-placed Reds find themselves just one point behind Manchester City at the summit, while Roy Hodgson's side is three points adrift of safety in the 18th.

We have a title race on our hands only a few months after Liverpool appeared to have lost the title to Man City once more, and Jürgen Klopp's side is showing no signs of wavering in their chase of an unprecedented quadruple.

Liverpool is currently within touching distance of Man City at the top before the two giants meet in a mouth-watering clash on April 10 with their lone defeat in any tournament since the turn of the year being the insignificant loss to Inter Milan on their own turf.

This rampaging Liverpool side has now won nine Premier League games in a row – they have kept clean sheets in each of their past four games in the top level and have scored 23 goals in that time – and Anfield is not often a happy hunting ground for visiting teams.

Klopp's team have won each of their past nine Premier League games at Anfield – where they have gone over a year without losing a game – and their record of seven home goals conceded this season is unlikely to worsen against the goal-shy Hornets.

Indeed, Hodgson's team are still in 18th place, three points behind 17th-placed Everton - who have two games in hand - but they have only lost two of their previous seven league games away from home, which is cause for cautious optimism.

However, Liverpool thrashed their forthcoming opponents 5-0 at Vicarage Road in October, and Watford is on a six-game Premier League losing streak at Anfield since one-time England coach Graham Taylor supervised a 1-0 victory in August 1999.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is striving to recover from a hamstring injury in time for the trip to the Etihad next weekend, but he will miss Watford's visit.

The loss of Liverpool's creator-in-chief Alexander-Arnold – even if only for a short period – is a huge blow, but Klopp will still expect his team to tear down their opponents with ease at Anfield.

The Reds must begin a difficult April with a smooth three points, and we can only imagine the hosts dragging Watford falling back down to earth with a straightforward victory.

A win for Liverpool and over 2.5 goals is tipped at 1.37.
