Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Håland looks likely to move to the city of Manchester and ply his trade in the Premier League next season but not in the colours of the English city’s most successful club.

According to various social media reports, Manchester United appear to have accepted defeat in their pursuit of Håland, following reports that the highly sought-after striker is closing in on agreeing to a deal with Manchester City.

The Norwegian international has been heavily linked with a move away from the German club, with a variety of top European teams being interested in his signature, including the Red Devils.

However, with Manchester City set to be Håland’s preferred destination for the upcoming summer transfer market, Manchester United have now accepted defeat in their pursuit of the 21-year-old, and instead, have set their sights on other targets.

Håland has made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, scoring 18 goals across those games, while he has also featured in five matches within other competitions, where he added another seven to his tally for the season.

Håland has emerged as one of the most coveted players in world football.

The Norway international's stock has only risen since arriving at Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in a reported £17m deal in January 2020, maintaining his prolific strike rate in the Champions League and Bundesliga.

Håland has a £63m release clause in his contract, which came into effect in 2022 and a who's who of Europe's top clubs are thought to be willing to pay significantly more in order to sign him.

Manchester City, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Barcelona are just some of the clubs to have been linked with the youngster, despite reports that he could cost well in excess of £100m.
