Simi released her debut album in 2008, a gospel LP titled Ogaju. She would now go on to change career paths by switching to secular music. This paid off big time with her 2014 single “Tiff” launching her into the limelight. The record went on to win the Headies Best Alternative Record in the 2015 edition of the awards.
Since then, Simi has earned a total of 30 award nominations, going ahead to win 13 of them.
Coming into a music industry dominated by men, Simi along with a number of other female acts have continued to prove and rewrite the narratives, hereby being an inspiration and a role model for upcoming female acts.
Simi has continued to use her music and platform to be a voice for women in Nigeria and all over Africa in general. Her 2021 single “Woman” highlights the institutional barriers society places on women and calls for just and equal treatment.
Mdundo appreciates Simi for lending her voice and resources to see that society is a better place for women.
