After playing a key part in Liverpool’s record-extending English League Cup success over Chelsea, Salah and his Liverpool teammates should still be on a high, but did you know that the 29-year-old fondly called Mo Salah is one of the most generous footballers out there?

Apart from purchasing equipment for a hospital in his hometown of Nagrig and constructing a school for his community, Mo Salah gave a stunning $681,500 to a Children's Cancer Facility in Cairo, Egypt's capital, to help the hospital acquire a bone marrow transplant machine. 

Did you also know that he married his childhood sweetheart? Yes, for those who didn’t already know, Salah is married, but that is not such a big deal.

The big deal is that when he married Maggi in 2013 – that is Mrs Salah’s name – he surprised everyone by inviting everyone from Nagrig to his wedding. 

Another fact you probably never knew about Salah is that he named his daughter, who was born a year after he got married to Maggi, after the famous Islamic holy site of Mecca. His daughter’s name is however spelt M.A.K.K.A. and not M.E.C.C.A. 

This next little-known fact may probably come as a shock but back in 2018, during Egypt’s presidential elections, about a million registered voters voted for Salah on election day, even though his name wasn’t on the ballot paper.

They did this by striking out the names of two of the presidential candidates and instead wrote Salah’s name on their ballot papers. If the votes had been valid, Salah would have finished second in the presidential election.
