It is a new beginning for Nigerian afro-fusion artiste Buju who has rebranded and has now chosen a new stage name 'BNXN' dignifying his real birth name ‘Benson’.
The "Outside" singer told his fans on Friday that he is no longer ‘Buju’ but ‘BNXN’. “Its no longer “Buju” Call me “Benson” written as ‘BNXN’,” he tweeted. His Wikipedia page already reflects this change.
His fans had varied reactions, some saying that it'll be hard to adjust.
“This will be hard for me to adjust too but I will I love Benson not because of his alias but what he offers,” @bunktwitter stated. Talentobods added: “Told my friends to watch out years the name buju will still break records how I won met all of em now and tell them na BNXN they go watch out for now no be buju again.”
Zamar used this incident to speak wisdom to upcoming artists warning them to think through their stage names before launching their careers.
“Santi had to change to CRUEL SANTINO. Buju had to change to BNXN. Poe had to change to Ladipoe. Upcoming Artiste, choose your stage name well before fame,” he said.
BNXN follows in the footsteps of big Nigerian artists who changed their names after becoming famous. ‘Pour Me Water’ hitmaker Kizz Daniel rebranded in 2018 from ‘Kiss Daniel’. 2Face also changed his name to 2Baba in 2016.
