Cleo Ice Queen’s Statement after Signing with Def Jam Africa

Def Jam Africa has secured the recording rights to Zambian songstress Cleo Ice Queen. Her deal with Def Jam is still under wraps, but signing a deal with them puts her in good company with other African superstars, such as South African hip-hop acts; Boity, Nadia Nakai and Nasty C.
A new section of Universal Music Group's Def Jam Africa label is dedicated to promoting the top hip-hop and Afrobeats artists in Africa. The hip-hop queen says that this a dream come true.

In a social media post after the announcement went public, she said: “I’ve always been about doing it for Zed and I’m amazed by God’s favor upon my life and career Glory and Praises to the most high! Zambia and the whole #IceyGang the light is upon us, so let’s shine let’s boogie let’s dream bigger than ever, and let’s express fearlessly!! Ni Zambia ku chalo and we leaving no man or woman behind. We’ve got work to do. Let’s make some beautiful noise for each other and lift each other up! It’s time Thank you Def Jam Recordings Africa for welcoming me to the family let’s make history, let’s do amazing things. Hip Hop is alive.”

For more than 35 years, Def Jam has been a driving force in hip-hop and urban culture, and Def Jam Africa intends to follow in its footsteps, according to a press statement from UMG.
