Prince Kaybee maybe an established artist but he recently felt why upcoming artists struggle so much. In a tweet, Kaybee recalled how he was stood up by a star artist yet he helped them get to where he was.

He says it was hurtful and shaming at the same time - but he is glad he knows just how much upcoming artists struggle.

“Ai today bang hurtile shame…, no wonder upcoming artists struggle to get help. I got stood up by someone that’s a star today because I opened the door for them when no one was listening. Lol I’m so hurt,” his tweet read.

The ‘Umenitosha’ hit maker last year advised upcoming artists against joining big labels. According to Kaybee, the first mindset change an aspiring artist must adopt is that they not be signed by a big recording label.

He said this is a major mistake that many artists make when starting out in music and end up frustrated.

Kaybee notes that budding artists can make it in the industry as long as they have the right plan including a great video and radio plugger.

“You don’t need to be signed to any record label, especially the major ones,” he said.

The ‘Gugulethu’ hitmaker says the problem with major recording labels is that they still do things the conventional way because ‘old people’ make decisions.

“The reason I fuss about having young people in your team as an artist is because old people are sitting at Major record labels applying Brenda Fassie’s promo plan to your career(May her soul RIP). These are different times, music is a young man’s sport,” he opined.

With a relatively affordable budget, Kaybee said there are chances of making it in Mzansi music industry.

“So its 25k to get a good radio plugger, 60k for a simple music video, 12k for a decent photoshoot, gather a few influencers for you to trend at 7k, have a YouTube account, upload music on streaming platforms, but you must have lucrative music,” he advised.
