A section of South African music fans have claimed that celebrated record producer DJ Maphorisa is the worthy winner of the Ukhozi FM Song of the Year award and not DJ Hlo who scooped the award.

DJ Hlo’s victory sparked social media backlash. Maphorisa's fans believe he should have won because he had three of the most popular tracks on the list, ‘Izolo’ being one of them.

Maphorisa outdid himself with ‘Izolo’ which he features Tyler ICU, Mpura, Daliwonga and Visca. In the second verse of the song, Maphorisa drops lyrics on how grand life has been for him. He speaks confidently of the days he’s purchased expensive drinks, and seen the best of life.

Now, social media users have been quick to accuse DJ Hlo, of paying a bribe to DJ Maphorisa's supporters. The honor went to DJ Hlo after she received 214, 966 votes from her supporters.

Some disgruntled supporters also claimed that she was awarded Song of the Year just because of her attractiveness.

Nathy_mashele added: “Put some respect on @KabzaDeSmall_ and @DjMaphorisa_M Song of the year."

In a rejoinder, DJ Hlo expressed her gratitude to her followers for recognizing her work and her desire to make the most of the exposure she has received.

"It feels amazing, regardless of the backlash. History has been made as the first female DJ to cross over the year, so it feels amazing. My social media has skyrocketed. My life just changed in a blink of an eye. This is huge for me," she said.
