In the wake of her win at Ukhozi FM's 2021 Song of the Year, DJ Hlo's social media accounts have been buzzing with excitement. Featuring DJ Manzo and Siboniso, her song Isibani took in 214,966 votes, which surpassed the likes of Zakes Bantwini's ‘Osama’ and DJ Maphorisa's ‘Izolo’.

Despite the positive reactions, several people argued that the results were manipulated and that other candidates were more qualified. In an interview with TshisaLIVE, DJ Hlo expressed her gratitude to her followers for recognizing her work and her desire to make the most of the exposure she has received.

"It feels amazing, regardless of the backlash. History has been made as the first female DJ to cross over the year, so it feels amazing. My social media has skyrocketed. My life just changed in a blink of an eye. This is huge for me," she said.

When asked about the criticism she's received on social media, DJ Hlo said she and her record company Maz Entertainment have been working hard to push her into the spotlight since she began her career in 2020 with the release of her first single ‘Ebusuku’ featuring Rethabile Khumalo.

The songstress-cum-DJ promised her fans more with an up-coming EP.

“It's hard to believe because I've been on this thing since 2020. I was in the top 10, I was number five. I've been campaigning everywhere to promote but I guess people will say whatever they want to say,” DJ Hlo stated.
