Renowned highlife musician, KK Fosu has called on the Ghana Music Rights Organisation, GHAMRO to put things in place to ensure that the future of Ghana musicians is secured. KK Fosu wants GHAMRO to be more accountable by ensuring that the monies earned by Ghana artists from their music are remitted to them at all times.

GHARMO represents the right of music copyright holders in Ghana and is also charged with the responsibility of collecting royalties for artists but there have been several complaints that artists are either never paid or don’t receive what they have rightfully earned. KK Fosu is calling for an end to this alleged inconsistency with payments.

Kwesi Arthur Reveals His Music Plans for 2022

Speaking in an interview with Doctar Cann on Happy FM’s Saturday morning entertainment talk show, Showbiz Xtra, KK Fosu said; “Musicians are suffering especially the oldies. Most of the oldies don’t know about this digital stuff. All they know is going to register at wherever they have been asked to go and waiting to receive their money so we need to help them. I for instance, am still young and energetic so if I decide to quit music now, I can still do other jobs but the oldies can’t.”

Using his experience with GHAMRO as an example, KK Fosu confirmed that he does receive payments sometimes from GHAMRO but in a quite inconsistent manner.

“I received about a 1000cedis recently and that money is royalties for over a year, not six months like they are saying because it’s been way over six months since I last received it,” he said.

Speaking further on the show, KK Fosu advised his fellow highlife musicians to be versatile and do music that will appease the larger Ghana music audience.

“We shouldn’t be one-way. As a musician, if you’re one-way, you’ll always stay underground, especially the highlife musicians,” he said.

“Don’t just do music. There are commercial songs that become hits in no time. You need to find the key to making such commercial songs. Some people have put out several songs but they are still not making hits because they do not have to key to making those commercial songs and that is the difference between KKD and the others,” the Suudwe crooner concluded.
