South African musician Cassper Nyovest has become a subject of discussion in the country after he was nominated in the 2021 South African Hip Hop Awards, despite switching to Amapiano.

He was nominated under ‘Artist Of The Decade’ category and will be battling it out with Youngsta CPT, Gigi Lamayne, Zakwe, Kuli Chana, Kwesta, Riky Rick, AKA, Nadia Nakai, Da Les, Emtee, K.O, Nasty C, Stogie T and A Reece.

When South African Hip-hop Awards put out the list of nominees with Cassper’s name on it, several netizens felt that he deserved the award more than anybody else.

One tweep said that without Cassper, SA Hip-hop wouldn’t be where it is today.

“On God Crossed fingers...@casspernyovest deserves this one, he's been crossing genres giving us raw talent,” Ntofo Ntofosaid.

Sunny Lesomo told those opposed to Cassper winning stating that “Do you wanna tell me that these guya are more valuable than Cassper when he is the one who did the most business and was the most talked about and achieved more than all of them in 2021 Granted Big Zulu, Nasty C did more music wise but Cassper beasts them in all other expects.”

Another one added: “SA Hip Hop from 2013 to 2018 without Cassper Nyovest wouldn't have reached its peak the way it did... Just because AKA and KO have been here longer than him doesn't mean their impact equates to Cassper's impact in the game. "In fact nobody and I mean nobody comes close Cassper's impact in the game, abo AKA and KO didn't talk about YouTube views until Cassper arrived, they didn't fill up arenas and stadiums until Cassper arrived..."

Other tweeps, however, felt that Cassper does not deserve the award, arguing that he moved from Hip-hop to Amapiano, therefore, he should not be honoured.

“Artist of Decade award can go to either AKA or Nasty not cassper or K.O....That one I wouldn't feel like they robbed Reece but otherwise others we want them all. Cassper been switching Genres every year then we want to honour him in Hip Hop with such Big Award C'mon,” Mandla Theo tweeted.

Cassper is yet to comment about the nomination. He recently released a Hip-hop song dubbed ‘The Pressure’ where he lifts the veil on a many things affecting him; from family to music.
