Malawians Appreciate me but are Jealous – Dr Namadingo Claims

Patience Namadingo popularly known by his stage name ‘Dr Namadingo’ is more Zambian than he is Malawian and so is his fellow artist Tay Grin.

Namadingo is signed by Elation Entertainment Zambia and has collaborated with various Zambian artists among them Yo Maps and Roberto. Namadingo and Grin - a hip hop artist - are working towards expanding music territories in Zambia and Malawi.

They say this will expand the music market in both countries which is why they call Zambia a second home.

“We need to expand the territories. We need to have territories that are - Zambia, Malawi bring in as many countries as we possibly can and create markets for our artists,” Grin told Hellen Zulu Phiri in an interview.

He added that having collaborations with Zambian artists – for him and Namadingo – is more of a business step then just entertainment. Given Malawi’s population of 19,784,618 and Zambia’s 19,067,011, Namadingo hopes to double his fans base by having fans back in Malawi and Zambia.

Namadingo also cleared the air on past sentiments that Malawians do not appreciate him like Zambians do which is why he chose Zambia. He said that this is not the case and what he meant was that people back home were jealous of him which happened because they appreciate his talent.

“You don’t get to the jealousy point before you appreciate. It means you appreciate but you don’t like it,” he said.

Namadingo moved to Zambia permanently and has his last album recorded and produced by Elation. He has been a part of the acclaimed Zamfest for three years. “I have been here (Zambia) more than I have been in Malawi,” he says.
