Bobby East Opens up on Battle with Depression

Renowned Zambian musician Bobby East has had a rough battle with depression which he says taught him that venting is one way to heal.

After his brother’s death in 2016, Bobby dealt with so much negativity from several quarters, with some accusing him of sacrificing his brother. This is where his battle with depression began.

“I’ve talked about mental health and my issues with depression since maybe 2016 or 2017 when my brother died,” he told Hellen Zulu Phiri.

The ‘Toxic’ hit maker says when people don’t talk about their issues, it is likely to take a toll on them and eventually lead them to the grave because of mental imbalance.

It is for this reasons that he prefers speaking his mind on various issues regardless on the consequences.

“Be strong, that’s all they say but there is only so much strength that you can exhibit and that is why sometimes I allow myself to act out because I can’t keep all of this stuff bottled in,” he explained.

Nevertheless, his venting has often been misunderstood by his fans and the ending is always a relentless bashing. For this reason, Bobby East feels a social media break is the best thing to address it all.
