Kwitu FM host Paige Ethy has rekindled a debate on radio relevance to artists over streaming; taking Nexus Music Entertainment CEO KB Killa Beats to task.
Paige was reacting to sentiments made by KB a fortnight ago where he told artist to focus on streaming because that’s where the money is and not on radio countdowns.

“Some artists are still excited about radio music count downs. You should be more excited about streaming numbers. Those bring money,” he stated.
However, Paige called him to order asking the Nexus CEO not to look down on the power of music countdowns on radio. She says that as a person who is in the music business, she understands the importance of countdowns and streaming.
“Instead of being negative about some things, why can’t you just encourage both countdowns and streams?” she posed.

Paige explains that radio plays a huge role in the commercialization of songs because it gives it publicity which is why people will then stream it.
“Before the money kicks in, you need people to listen to your songs which radio comes in,” added the Radio goddess.
She holds a similar view to a section of Zambians who told KB that radio is equally important like the streaming.
“But then radio count downs markets the song which brings in even more streaming numbers, so it’s ok they can be excited. That will be K100 please, I don’t give free advice,” Kasoma stated.
Record producer DJ Mzengaman seconded Kasoma saying that frequency of an artist’s song on radio helps maintain their relevance.
“One of the major sources of this same relevance comes from “Frequent charting on top radio shows" another part of it comes from street credibility. In other words, I feel like all forms of platforms are somehow interconnected in as far the artists "revenue and relevance bases are concerned.”
