Lady Du Emotionally Recalls How Late Mpura Helped Launch Her Entertainment Career

South African DJ Lady Du had an emotional moment at the funeral of late Amapiano singer Mpura. Lady Du is yet to come to terms with Mpura’s untimely death.

The Yano DJ and Amapiano singer says Mpura was the man who launched her entertainment career back in the day. Speaking to mourners in Johannesburg during his funeral on Tuesday, Lady Du recalled that she was seated in the studio when Mpura unexpectedly invited her to record.

According to her, Mpura was then working with other Yano artist and was recording his song ‘Umsebenzi Wethu’.

At that moment, Lady Du says she was fighting depression and never thought she would sing at all in her state.

“Mpura was the one person who gave me an opportunity when I was just sitting at the studio. when they were singing ‘Umsebenzi Wethu’, then he called me to the mic. At that time I was depressed, I wasn't in a good space. I said to Mpura I can't sing,” she told mourners.

ZaLebs reports that Mpura realised Lady Du was not in a good emotional state when she started crying as they recorded ‘Umsebenzi Wethu’. He pulled her aside and gave her money to take care of her baby.

He thereafter became a pillar to lean on musically for Lady Du. She added that Mpura always talked of leaving a legacy by helping his mum and family.
