Sanga Tembo, a top Zambian entertainer has urged local artistes to ensure they monetize their music instead of giving it out for free.

In an interview with PMC on Joy FM, Tembo said artists have failed in adding monetary value to their music because they release it for free. He notes that Zambians will only get serious about their music if the top artists push them to buy it other than giving it for free.

Tembo was reacting to a statement by Macky 2 on ending piracy. He noted that while Macky 2 started the conversation, time has come for more to be done which is cutting all ties to putting out new music for free.

“It has to start with them like its starting because they are the gatekeepers,” he said while mentioning the likes of Bobby East, Chef 187, Slapdee, Mampi among other artists.

“I feel like these big artists want to have it both ways,” he stated. Tembo adds that many upcoming artists are more concerned on how viral the song goes because it creates a new revenues streams for them through commercials and touring the country by width and breadth.

His clarion call is that artists should not put out music for free because they are the same people that encourage people to buy but later put out music for free in order to push the song.
