Chef 187 Pays Respect to Macky 2, Slap Dee’s Hip-hop Battles

When talking of Zambian Hip-hop, there are two prominent figures from way back who make a show; Macky 2 and Slap Dee. They are regarded as the godfathers of Zambian Hip-hop. They shaped it to what it is in the early 2000s.

Over the years, Macky 2’s music has inspired many including his young brother Chef 187 who is a respected rapper in Zambia. Recently, Chef 187 paid homage to his brother and Slap Dee for their years of hard work in shaping the genre.

He showered praises on the two rappers reminiscing of the formative days when they filled arenas with their Verzuz battle.

He captioned the post with an American Verzuz adding: “This #Verzuz was cute but Respect to Macky 2 and Slap Dee who have been doing actual versus battles in fully filled arenas with the same intensity from 2011. The atmosphere used to be real and Risky.”

Zed hip hop fans weighed in saying that these battles are what shaped the genre’s landscape in Zambia.

“Respect to the two giants that paved the way and gave birth to a new era of Zed Hip Hop.....Respect to you @chefy and others who pushed the game to grow to the highly competitive levels its on now. #Verzuz,” The BlackSuperman said. Aqcuila added that “That was the height of Zambian entertainment. Respect for real.” For years, Slap Dee and Macky 2 were Zambia’s biggest musical rivals. But they buried the hatchet a while back and have been working together.
