Zambian RnB songstress Wezi Heartsound has opened up on her battle with depression, noting that music has been her “medium of communication.

Speaking during a Facebook live session with her fans, she noted that depression is a sensitive subject for her as she’s lost loved ones to depression and at the same time suffered from it.

“I’m going to open up and share something very sensitive with all of you! For a very long time, I’ve battled with anxiety and depression. I’ve lost some loved ones to depression and I’ve realized how deep it is,” she posted.

Wezi spoke of the stigma depressed people are subjected to which leads them to committing suicide in most cases. Stigma, she said, also makes it hard for those battling the mental disorder to open up, adding that due to fear, it graduates from anxiety to depression.

For Wezi, her music is a therapy channel that helps her overcome dark thoughts. Without it, she would have ended up as another statistic of a patient battling chronic depression.

“I feel like if I didn’t have music as a medium of communication, I would have ended up in a darker place. I feel for everyone that’s lost their lives because they were battling these issues. Mental health issues are very real and many lives are lost worldwide,” she said.

Her advice is never give up in life and “learn to take a day at a time because hard times don’t last forever.”

She is the second high-flying Zambian celebrity to open up on the battle with depression after Macky 2.
