Ykee Benda Vows to Make Mpaka Records Biggest Label in Africa

Ugandan artist Ykee Benda has opened up on the plans he has for his record label; Mpaka Records noting that he is keen to ensure the stable grows to become one of the biggest music production companies in Africa.

"I wanted to build something bigger than me. Right now, Ykee Benda is still bigger than the label but my idea is to make Mpaka Records bigger than me. If Mpaka is bigger than Ykee Benda, every artist I put under the label will be big. It won't even take them a long time to shine," Ykee Benda said during a recent interview.

According to Ykee Benda, a part from producing music and videos, the company is looking at maximizing on its potential as an agency between corporates and artists.

At the moment, artists like Lydia Jazmine have been able to scoop ambassadorial deals through Mpaka Records.

Ykee Benda started his career at Badi Music before parting ways with the label and starting Mpaka Records in 2017.

Until 2019 when he signed Dre Cali, Ykee Benda was the only artist signed under Mpaka records.

For artists looking to join the label, Ykee Benda said they cannot apply as the management scouts for musicians before signing them.
