This year, Apple Music makes a collection of freedom songs for Juneteenth, a day set aside in the US to celebrate the freedom of black people. 

Tems who according to an interview with Apple Music said she only learnt about Juneteenth last year, 2020 wherewith everything that went on with the Black Lives Matter movement et al gave the day more cognizance.

For this year’s Collection of Apple Music’s Juneteenth-Inspired freedom songs, the superstar singer covers John Legends Ordinary People, a record she says she chose because of the clarity and influence it has. 

You cannot cover a John Legend song and do it better, as a matter of fact, it would be hard to impress covering a record like Ordinary People but that certainly was not the aim.  On this, Tems does a very good job at adding her own tweaks to the record while keeping it melodiously basic to retain the soul of the record. John Legend would definitely be proud of what Tems have done with this record.
